Nelson Mandela International Day 2025 Celebrations

In honour of Nelson Mandela’s 107th birth anniversary, the Nelson Mandela International Day 2025 was celebrated on 18th July 2025 at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The event was a collaborative effort by Gandhi Yuva Baradari, the United Nations Information Centre, and the Working Group on Alternative Strategies—united in their commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity.

The Opening Session echoed the soul of Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom, drawing attention to his unwavering belief in tolerance, equality, and the transformative power of love over hate. Dignitaries shared messages that bridged continents and convictions, most notably a message from the UN Secretary-General delivered by Mr. Chandramouli Guha (UNIC), and compelling addresses by H.E. Prof. Anil Sooklal, High Commissioner of South Africa, and Mr. Suhas Borker, Convener of the Working Group.

The highlight of the day was the interactive student segment, where youth from across Delhi NCR voiced their views on Mandela’s ideals in today’s world. Adding to the vibrancy was a painting exhibition by students, capturing Mandela’s legacy in bold strokes and bright colours.

Students from our school stood out with their passionate engagement and thoughtful reflections. In particular, Ojasvini Sharma (Class 12-G) was recognised among the top three contributors, receiving an award for her outstanding intervention.

The event concluded with a powerful collective message: to walk forward in Mandela’s footsteps, not just in memory, but in action. The event was a proud reflection of the values Mandela lived and died for.
