Teen Parenting: Needs to Independence: A Transformative Parent Workshop
Salwan Public School conducted a workshop “Teen Parenting: Needs to Independence” on 15th November 2025 for parents of students from Classes VI to XII. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Shivani Yadav, an RCI-registered Rehabilitation Counsellor and Counselling Psychologist, specialising in child and adolescent mental health. With extensive experience across schools, private clinics, and government institutions such as the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ms. Yadav brought valuable insights to the session. She is also the Founder of The Becoming, an initiative that supports children and parents in navigating everyday challenges by helping them connect with their “wisdom from within.”
The session aimed to help parents understand the developmental needs of teenagers as they transition towards real-life practicality and independence. Through an engaging and interactive format, Ms. Yadav introduced the framework of 3S—Support, Scaffold, and Set It Free, encouraging parents to nurture their child’s autonomy while maintaining emotional connection and guidance.
The workshop also included experiential activities that enabled parents to reflect on their communication patterns, expectations, and parenting styles. Emphasis was placed on creating enabling, nurturing and inclusive home environments that acknowledge the diverse needs of adolescents, including those with learning and emotional differences.
The event concluded with parents gaining practical strategies to strengthen their relationships with their teenagers, promote resilience, and guide them towards responsible independence. The workshop was well-received and contributed meaningfully to fostering healthier parent–child interactions within the school community.
