Celebrating Heritage Through Hands-on Learning: Artisan Workshop on Traditional Indian Art Forms
Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar organised an Artisan Workshop on Traditional Indian Art Forms on 17 December 2025 in the school campus. The initiative was undertaken as part of the school’s continued efforts to promote experiential learning and cultural education. The workshop aimed to sensitise students to India’s rich artistic heritage by facilitating direct interaction with practising artisans and fostering respect for indigenous knowledge systems.
The workshop was conducted by eminent artisans Smt. Lajwanti Chabra, associated with traditional Indian art forms, and Mr. Sujit Karn, a renowned artisan known for his significant contribution to folk and traditional art.
The programme highlighted the relevance of traditional arts in contemporary education. The artisans familiarised students with the historical background, cultural significance, and distinctive techniques of various folk and traditional art forms. This was followed by live demonstrations and a guided hands-on session, allowing students to apply the learned techniques under expert supervision.
Through this engaging workshop, students from different branches of Salwan Schools gained a deeper understanding of traditional art practices, their cultural and social relevance, and the vital role artisans play in preserving heritage. The activity enhanced creativity, observation skills, patience, and appreciation for craftsmanship, while strongly promoting experiential and value-based learning.
As a continuation of this initiative, and under the Community Outreach Programme, the artisans have been invited to attend Samman Diwas being organised at SPS RN on 20 December 2025 with the objective to support, honour, and formally recognise artisans for their invaluable contribution to the preservation and promotion of India’s cultural heritage.
