Hunar Mela – A Celebration of India’s Artistic Legacy

Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar, hosted Hunar Mela, an exhibition of colours, culture, and creativity, in collaboration with the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development under the Save the Artisans initiative.

The exhibition was a rich tapestry of India’s traditional crafts, from the intricate strokes of Madhubani and Patachitra paintings to eco-jewellery, Kantha embroidery, ethnic sarees, dupattas, batik work, ceramic pottery, pottery with religious significance, and the elegant black pottery of Azamgarh. Adding to its charm, the NAB India Centre for Blind Women & Disability Studies presented beautiful creations that reflected both skill and inclusivity, including weaving with straws, making charms, earrings and bracelets, dori work, rakhi making, and potlis.

Showcasing entrepreneurial zeal, students from the Business Blasters Club marketed eco-friendly products. A key attraction was the series of interactive workshops where students learned traditional art forms firsthand from master artisans.

The event was a strong initiative towards preserving heritage, empowering artisans, and inspiring the next generation to carry forward India’s artistic legacy.
