A Capacity Building Session on Cyber Safety and Security was held on 18th May 2026 at J.J. Hall. The session was conducted by Mr. Ankit Kansara, Principal, St. Giri School, and Ms. Indu Sharma, PGT, Computer Science, Darshan Academy.
The objective of the session was to create awareness among educators regarding cyber ethics, cyber security, cyber awareness, cyber-crimes, banking frauds, computer forensics, and the legal framework related to cyber safety. The programme aimed at empowering teachers with the knowledge and practical strategies required to ensure safe and responsible use of digital technology in educational institutions, as well as in personal life.
The session commenced with an introductory address by Ms. Rashi Oberoi, Headmistress, Salwan Public School, who emphasised the importance of safeguarding oneself and making students aware of cybersecurity and safety, and the legal implications. The session started with a video presentation on Cyber Safety and Security, followed by an interactive self-introduction activity where participants shared their views and expectations from the programme by filling a questionnaire.
The resource persons elaborated on important concepts related to cyber ethics and responsible digital citizenship. Topics such as intellectual property rights, plagiarism, digital property rights, privacy, authentication, and authorization were explained with practical examples from daily life. Participants were sensitised towards ethical online conduct and the importance of protecting personal and institutional data. Teachers actively took part in group discussions, brainstorming sessions, and practical implementation activities related to cyber safety practices. These activities encouraged participants to reflect upon real-life cyber threats and preventive measures.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the role-play presentations performed by the teachers on different types of cybercrimes and fraud. Participants creatively enacted situations based on phishing attacks, cyberbullying, ATM fraud, identity theft, cyber stalking, fake social media profiles, online scams, and misuse of personal information. Through these role plays, teachers demonstrated how cyber criminals manipulate users and how awareness, vigilance, and responsible online behaviour can help prevent such incidents. These dramatized presentations helped participants understand the emotional, social, and financial impact of cybercrimes in a practical and relatable manner. The activities also emphasized the importance of reporting cybercrimes promptly and supporting victims with empathy and awareness.
The session further focused on cyber awareness and hygiene for teachers, parents, children, and teenagers. Participants were guided on safe internet usage, creating strong passwords, identifying suspicious links, protecting devices from malware, and maintaining privacy settings on social media platforms. Special emphasis was laid on protecting children from cyber grooming, cyberbullying, and unsafe online interactions.
Detailed discussions were also held on various types of bank frauds, such as ATM skimming, phishing, debit and credit card fraud, cheque kiting, and wire transfer fraud. The speakers provided practical safety measures to prevent financial cyber fraud and encouraged participants to remain cautious while carrying out online transactions. The programme also covered major cybercrimes, including hacking, virus dissemination, denial-of-service attacks, web jacking, email spamming, identity theft, software piracy, cyber stalking, and cyber grooming. Teachers were encouraged to spread cyber safety awareness among students and parents to build a safer digital environment.
The resource persons also introduced participants to computer forensics and the Information Technology Act, 2000, highlighting the legal aspects of cybercrimes and the importance of digital evidence in investigations.
The session concluded with an interactive reflection and feedback discussion. It was an enriching and informative workshop to help promote cyber safety awareness within their schools and communities.
