CBSE Capacity Building Workshop on Gender Sensitisation in Schools
A CBSE Capacity Building Workshop on Gender Sensitisation in Schools was organised to enhance educators’ understanding of gender equality, inclusion and the creation of safe, equitable and respectful learning environments. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Meenakshi Gupta, Principal, S.D. Public School, and Dr. Heemal Handoo Bhat, Principal, Hans Raj Model School, Delhi.
Through interactive discussions, reflection exercises, case studies and group activities, participants explored gender stereotypes, unconscious biases, gender identity, transgender inclusion, gender-sensitive language and inclusive classroom practices. The sessions also examined power relationships, gender-based violence, bullying and the role of schools in promoting dignity, respect and equal opportunities.
The workshop highlighted the importance of creating a whole-school culture of inclusion through equitable access to resources, gender-sensitive pedagogy, supportive policies and meaningful participation for all learners. It also emphasised teachers’ role in promoting students’ emotional well-being by remaining approachable, empathetic and non-judgmental, while strengthening collaboration with parents.
The workshop was an enriching learning experience that encouraged educators to reflect on their practices and work collectively towards building a more inclusive, sensitive and equitable school environment.
